M1 Legal Announces A Record Month For March 2022

March 2022 was a fantastic month for M1 Legal, which continued to win huge claims for its clients taking on Europe’s biggest timeshare companies. During the month, the Malaga-based firm managed to break all its previous records.

More justice for victims

There are many people who find themselves in the distressing position of being stuck in an unwanted timeshare agreement and paying an annual fee that they cannot get out of. They were often mis-sold timeshare deals many years ago, making the problem even more frustrating.

Back in 1999, several laws came into effect to provide protection to consumers from disreputable timeshare companies. The aim was to help prevent these consumers from making life-changing financial decisions while they were on holiday in Spain that would have enormous future repercussions. Sadly, many bad players in the market chose to ignore these laws.

As such, victims have been fighting for justice, and the road has been a long one. It was only in 2016, after 17 years, that Tove Grimsbo received about €40,000 in compensation after Gran Canaria based timeshare company Anfi sold a contract to her illegally due to the fact that it had longevity of over 50 years.

This important win turned the tables on timeshare companies, and the floodgates were opened. Before this, timeshare companies had used many tactics to delay lawsuits and prevent them from going ahead. The Tove Grimsbo victory changed all that, and many more victims have since gone to court to get justice.

The expert lawyers at M1 have been winning many cases against Spanish companies for their clients ever since. M1 Legal (M1) quickly became recognised as leaders in the field, going on to achieve ground breaking victories for their clients.

M1 Legal: taking on bad timeshare actors

M1 comprises a team of experienced lawyers who have one primary goal: to get justice for victims of illegal timeshare practices.

M1 works closely with European Consumer Claims (ECC). This is Europe’s main timeshare claims firm, and it is often the first place victims go to find out about their options.

ECC looks into the cases and determines the claims that are strongest, which it then refers to M1 Legal so the experienced lawyers can help the victims to get the compensation they deserve.

The tactics used by many timeshare resorts over the years to delay justice have been very frustrating for victims. But since 2016, M1 has been challenging these tactics – and winning. Every successful case leads to the process speeding up, which is great news for victims seeking compensation.

In 2022, M1 has already helped many of its clients to be awarded compensation. This is only going to continue in the following months.

The head of M1 Legal, Fernando Sansegundo, said: "We are less than 3 months into 2022 and we have already secured 105 separate victories for our clients," he confirms. "This represents a total compensation award amount of £1,680,082. It is the best start to a year we have had since our inception."

"Right now, nearing the end of March 2022 we have already broken all previous monthly records," continues Sansegundo. "There have been 39 court victories since the first day of this month. With 3 business days remaining, the total compensation award number so far is an incredible £573,190.

"That is 39 people who are not only free of their timeshare contracts and annual fee obligations, but were also awarded a financial windfall at the same time."

There have been a few particularly notable cases during the month, like Lynne and Ken D, who won their case against Club Gran Anfi and were awarded compensation of £42,987.

Michael W won his case against Club La Costa and was awarded £38,128. And Mark Andrew S was awarded £21,526 in compensation after winning a case against Diamond Resorts.

The biggest award was to Angela and Derek W. They were awarded £59,175 in their claim against Marriot Vacation Club.

While the primary aim of many clients is to simply free themselves from unfair timeshare commitments, they were delighted to also receive significant compensation awards.

"These are significant amounts of money," says Fernando. "It's enough to buy a luxury car, or even add an extension to a house. On average the compensation awards that our lawyers win for ECC/M1 clients is in excess of £20,000.

"Two clients who received their award money last week, an Ayrshire couple called Douglas and Linda, called me to tell me they are having the entire inside of their home remodelled. They were so happy speaking to me on the phone. It is calls like that which remind me how lucky I am to do this job."

Do you have a claim?

“The real hard work in timeshare claims has been done," explains Fernando.

"The timeshare company lawyers are running out of ways to delay the claims process. Timeshare sales operations broke the law, and modern judges are making them pay. "People due compensation who apply now face a much shorter wait than people who started their claims back in 2016. If you bought timeshare in Spain, on or after the 5th January 1999, then you may be entitled to financial recompense too."
